Based in Camden since 2008, the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) recently refurbished Head Office occupies 35,700 sq. ft. of space over two floors. Recognised and frequently recommended as a standout example of a truly modern workplace (winning ‘People Focused Workplace Design’ at the 2019 HR Excellence Awards) – this stylishly designed headquarters offers a fantastic light and airy space which benefits from a terrace with great views over the capital.
Despite having more than 20 meeting rooms (many named after prestigious pioneers of heart research), in recent years, BHF’s increasing headcount has resulted in pressure on space and a lack of collaborative settings, not helped by space-hungry 120° “boomerang” desks! And with headcount continuing to increase, the need to reconsider how the space was being used was paramount.
Having considered a variety of different options, there was a clear desire to deliver a cost-effective solution, to move away from desk ownership and work in a more agile way and to improve collaboration across teams.
By early 2019, the BHF workplace was transformed. Old desks were recycled and replaced with more space-efficient desks with full agile working introduced which required a change management piece of work to achieve the desired behavioural transformations. This enabled BHF to introduce a whole range of collaborative spaces for informal meetings and drop-ins as well as brand new kitchen area to cater for increasing numbers of staff.
As a result, BHF has succeeded in creating a truly spectacular new office space which allows staff to do their best work in helping the British Heart Foundation to Beat Heartbreak Forever. Join us on Monday 11 November and admire all they have achieved.
