WWF’s Living Plant Centre

Thursday, 15 November, 2018 @ 14:30 - 16:00 UTC

| £32

The Living Planet Centre is the home of WWF in the UK, located in Woking (20 minute from Waterloo station).  Far surpassing its ambition to be an ‘exemplar’ green building; the multi-award winning building (which spans 8,300 square meters) is far more than a company headquarters.

Elevated on stilts (with a public car park hidden underneath) the spectacular building has been exceptionally kind and complementary to its surroundings, maintaining a natural, soft and organic look which owes a lot to its sweeping and extendable curvaceous roofline that sits below the tree-line.

Surrounded by trees, shrubs and grasses, complete with a small wetland area, the cabin-style building provides a tranquil environment for its staff and visitors, with a small area for employees to grow plants, flowers and even fruit and veg.

The spacious, two-story light-filled arched interior, featuring beautiful wooden beams, free-standing trees and a stunning diagrid ceiling, holds an impressive ‘Visitor Experience’ exhibition space (incorporating four zones that capture the sights and sounds of different environments), a learning zone and meeting space including boardroom and a 150-seat auditorium, as well as open-plan working spaces, with quiet rooms and meeting areas.

The Living Planet Centre is much more than a workspace. It was the first building in the UK to undergo a full, whole-life carbon assessment, just one of the many unique features of the fantastic building.  In the words of David Attenborough, this is a living building that enshrines hope for the world.
